I chose to leave this one without a title, but I'm calling it "daddy & me". I started with white cardstock, and then placed the black strip on the right side, and used die-cut black paper for the center border strip. The flourish paper was trimmed from DCWV Alphabet Stack, and was very pale, so I used charcoal colored chalk by Pebbles Inc. to deepen the outer/inner portions of the flourishes and did some outlining and shading with a Zig Photo Signature Black Pen. The journaling was done in MS Word with a downloaded font and printed on Grafix InkJet Adhesive-Backed Paper. The I placed a lot of embellishments on the right side of the photo...I used chip board shapes, flowers, rub ons, stickers and some of my own doodling with my Signo pen. I use a lot of rub-ons from Basic Grey, these are called Urban Calligraphy, and sometimes the size/shape isnt exactly right for the space I need, I trim them very carefully to the exact size i need, ( I do this mainly with the larger or odd shaped flourishes.) and then I use my Signo to lightly add anything that may have been trimmed off. I started with "naked" chipboard (on most of the pieces) and colored the pieces black & white just using a marker, Deco Color markers are fantastic for this because they are so opaque, dry shiny, and is a quicker solution than using acrylic paints.
I just love the way you have the flourishes! I also think the photo corners really are a great touch that sets off the photo beautifully! great work :)
Oh... how I love this ..I love all the journalling..the flourishes and well all of it.I just think the photo say`s it all... `Classy and beautiful`..TFS ....Might look out for deco markers now!!! Have a lovely `halloween`:)~X~
Oh MY! This layout is a show stopper. I love the flourishes as well :) And I love how you altered your paper to be exactly how you wanted it to be. It's all those little details...
the one accessory that i truly love using on every page is scrapbook chalk. i currently use 2 different dry palettes, one called Decorating Chalks, which is a bright and vivid palette with primary colors, and another by Pebbles, Inc. called Kan'dee Shimmer Chalks. I always use at least 3 different colors of chalk on the area that i work on. for example, if i want an area to appear blue, i would use a deep blue on the outer parts, a mid-toned blue next to that, and finally a very pale blue (or even white) in the center. this process can also be reveresed, using the deepest color on the inside rather than outer sides. I use applicators to apply the 3 shades, but i always blend them together with my fingers. using 3 colors (or more) ensures you will achieve good depth of color and goes back to basic art principals of shading and highlights. if you've tried chalking in the past and were not happy with the result, it might be because you didn't get the depth/dimension of color you hoped for. if this is the case, get those chalks back out and practice with the 3 color rule. i also suggest trying colors that you never tried before, especially deep/dark colors can look intimidating in the palette, but are necessary for creating certain effects on paper. i think you'll really be amazed at how easy it is to create beautiful effects with chalks if you keep an open mind about color!
